CORE

AI-Powered Ground Motion Monitoring System with Integrated InSAR, Remote Sensing Data and GNSS-equipped Corner Reflectors

CORE (Corner Reflector Enabled Remote Sensing) is a remote sensing system developed by GVL to address the challenges of monitoring ground motion and infrastructure settlement. Traditional monitoring methods are expensive, logistically challenging, and unsafe in hard-to-reach areas. CORE provides a scalable and cost-effective alternative by combining All-Terrain InSAR (AT-InSAR), Persistent Scatterer InSAR (PSInSAR), remote sensing data, and GNSS-equipped Corner Reflectors. This system enables accurate, continuous, and automated monitoring over urban, rural, and vegetated landscapes. Leveraging Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) components, CORE reduces costs and increases accessibility for widespread deployment, especially where conventional survey techniques are impractical.

The innovation behind CORE lies in its integration of multiple sensing technologies with AI and ML-based processing to enhance data quality, automate analysis, and provide predictive insights. AT-InSAR, built upon GVL’s advanced SBAS InSAR techniques, delivers wide-area deformation monitoring, while PSInSAR targets high-precision displacements at specific points. Additionally, remote sensing data offers valuable contextual information that enhances the interpretation of these radar findings. Unlike most competitors who rely solely on PSInSAR or SBAS, GVL’s approach is more versatile and adaptive. The AI components improve anomaly detection and early-warning systems, helping users manage infrastructure proactively and more safely.

CORE fits into GVL’s long-term strategy by enhancing its monitoring services and expanding into new infrastructure and environmental sectors such as high-speed rail and peatland preservation. Its implementation aligns with European and global sustainability goals, particularly in safety, innovation, and climate resilience. By enabling reduced field deployment and real-time risk assessments, CORE improves site safety while lowering operational costs. The service is expected to fuel company growth, potentially doubling GVL’s workforce in three years. Its modular architecture, holistic data integration, and user-friendly visualisation platform set it apart as a leading-edge solution in the geospatial monitoring industry.

How CORE Works

CORE integrates radar sensing, corner reflectors, and AI into a single monitoring system:

  1. Data Collection: AT-InSAR and PSInSAR measure large-scale and point-specific displacements, supported by GNSS-equipped corner reflectors and remote sensing.

  2. Data Processing: AI and ML enhance accuracy, automate anomaly detection, and provide predictive insights.

  3. Data Delivery: Results are delivered through dashboards, real-time alerts, and interactive maps.

Why It’s Different

CORE stands out through:

  • Hybrid Approach: Wide coverage plus pinpoint accuracy.

  • AI-Powered Insights: Automated analysis and early warnings.

  • Cost & Scale Benefits: Built on COTS tech for efficient deployment.

  • Safety First: Reduces risky fieldwork in hard-to-reach areas.

  • Sustainability: Aligns with global resilience and climate goals.

Applications

CORE is adaptable across sectors:

  • Infrastructure: Railways, bridges, tunnels, dams.

  • Urban Development: Building settlement and metro works.

  • Environment: Peatlands, landslides, coastal erosion.

  • Energy: Pipelines, powerlines, renewable sites.

Progress Update

In August 2025, we reached our first major milestone: MS1 (Requirements Review). We defined 17 system requirements through stakeholder workshops and expert research. At the same time, we finished WP2000 (System Design & Definition), which establishes a robust platform for advancing into system development, testing, and practical application.

Since then, the team has pushed ahead on several fronts: we’ve made technical strides in integrating Earth monitoring, weather & soil data, and developing AI/ML tools. On the business side, we’ve been boosting our visibility, engaging with stakeholders, and exploring early commercial opportunities to make sure CORE delivers real impact.
